DENPASAR always captivates tourists with its rich culture and traditions. One of the most anticipated annual events is the Kasanga Festival, and this year (2025) it will be held on March 21-23. This festival is part of a series of celebrations for Nyepi Day of Saka New Year 1947 falling on March 29, 2025.
The Denpasar Kasanga Festival 2025 is held by the Denpasar City Government and Pasikian Yowana of Denpasar City. It features ogoh-ogoh parade as well as competition of large and mini ogoh-ogoh, sketches, documentary video, photo and baleganjur gamelan accompaniment, as quoted from Instagram account of @kasangafest.
This three-day festival aims to preserve culture and become a medium of innovation for younger generations and will take place at Puputan Badung Square (I Gusti Ngurah Made Agung), Denpasar.
In Balinese language, Kasanga means ‘the ninth,’ which refers to the ninth month in the Balinese or Saka calendar. At the end of the Saka Year 1946 or Pangrupukan Day, Tawur Kasanga (Pecaruan) ceremony is held before entering the Saka New Year 1947 falling on the first date of Sasih Kedasa (10th month) or March 29.
