Surfing on Medewi Beach in West Bali

NESTLED some 70 km west of Denpasar, the tranquil Medewi Beach in Jembrana County offers beautiful location to have a promenade. Overlay of lovely beach with grey river stones, gravels and black sand, in fact, also retains a great potential to surf. It’s an alternative site other than the prominent Kuta, Dreamland or even Uluwatu for surfers to enjoy riding the sensational waves.

To reach the location, visitors can cover the distance by riding a motorcycle or driving a car from Denpasar or Kuta area. Approximately it will take you 2 hours. Please drive carefully along the Tabanan area to the destination because the route is slightly winding and busy in certain hours and you will pass trailer trucks and interisland buses from Java. The traffic is much different from the common ones around Kuta area. Along the journey, you automatically get refreshed as passing through the spread of terraced paddy fields and coconut plantation.

Good time to do surfing on Medewi Beach is in August. Charms of huge waves have drawn many surfers to come and they are willing to cover a long distance. The waves on Medewi Beach can be enjoyed by all levels of expertise in surfing. Since some rocks are barnacles so foot protection is required for safety to get in and out of the water. So, swimming is not recommended there.

Medewi Beach has also been equipped with tourism supporting facilities such as accommodation, restaurant, souvenir shop and others. Nearby sits local fishermen base, so you can also see their daily activities. Their fish catch provides the supply of fish need for the community around Jembrana and Tabanan.
