WHEN making a visit to Northern Bali, do not forget to drop in at the ex-Buleleng Harbor. Situated right northward of Singaraja town, this attraction offers beautiful charms of the beach with tranquil waves.
In the past, Singaraja was the capital of Nusa Tenggara (covering Bali, West and East Nusa Tenggara). So, it was a strategic center for sea transportation and business activities. But after the region was decided to be divided into three provinces, the capital of Bali Province was also then removed from Singaraja to Denpasar. As a result, the activities at Buleleng Harbor diminished.
After the establishment of Celukan Bawang Harbor, this harbor is getting quieter. Local government has initiative to arrange the area. After the arrangement, a beautiful park is then embellishing this area so that it becomes a nice place to hang out in the afternoon.
Before twilight falls, many young people and adult throng this place to unwind and relax after working har
d for the whole day. They come with friends or family. Having a promenade along the beach is pleasing and light activity while watching the overlay of the sea with blue water. A number of people also take advantage of the moment to fish.
To get culinary delight, a night market is available here offering some delicious local foods. In the meantime, there is also a floating seafood restaurant built on the ex-wooden pier of the Buleleng Harbor by local government.
Supporting objects around here include the ex-office building of the harbor, Buddhist Temple, traditional market, old bridge built during Dutch occupation and a newly established hotel across the Buleleng River.
