The name Joged Bumbung comes from the words “joged” which means dance, and “bumbung” which means bamboo segments. It is a form of performing art frequently held at social events such as weddings, traditional ceremonies and village festivals, including in the annual Bali Art Festival (BAF) held by Bali Provincial Government in Bali Art Center.

Initially, Joged Bumbung was a folk dance that was entertainment in nature and was used to strengthen social relations between residents.

The Balinese traditional dance Joged Bumbung is performed by a female dancer, who is usually accompanied by a set of bamboo gamelan.
